Xvie is a sterile, cell-free solution derived from donated human amniotic fluid. What Is Xvie Hair Treatment?

A Decellularized Amniotic Fluid Concentrate

Xvie XO Concentrate is a topically applied, decellularized molecular product derived from human amniotic fluid, donated by consenting mothers at the time of a full-term caesarean birth. Donors are screened to United States Food and Drug Administration and Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies standards, and manufacture uses a minimal-manipulation sterile filtration that removes cells, pathogens, endotoxins and biologic debris.

Because the cells are removed, what reaches your scalp is the signalling fraction — growth factors, cytokines and extracellular matrix proteins. Every finished lot is third-party tested for sterility (USP<71>), endotoxin (USP<85>) and mycoplasma (USP<63>). Delivery is the same route we use for PRP scalp injections and scalp microneedling, but the product is different: donated growth factors rather than your own platelets.

What Happens During an Xvie Treatment

Step by Step Process

  1. Consent and Baseline Photos

    We review the consent form with you and photograph your starting density.

  2. Numbing, Then Cleansing

    Topical lidocaine if you want it, then the scalp is fully cleansed of it before anything is applied.

  3. Microneedling Pass

    The treatment area is stimulated to visible erythema at 0.75-1.0 mm on the vertex and mid-frontal scalp, 0.5-0.75 mm at the frontal hairline and temples.

  4. Xvie Application

    The full 2 mL is drawn and applied in small amounts along the divided hair line, then massaged across the area with a gloved hand.

  5. Optional Second Pass

    The area can be re-stimulated with the microneedling device afterwards, though the protocol does not require it.

  6. Aftercare

    No other topical products straight afterwards, and no washing the area for 24 hours.

What You Should Know

Common Side Effects

Because the treatment is a microneedling pass followed by a topical application, the expected effects are the microneedling ones: redness, a tight or tender scalp, pinpoint bleeding and mild swelling, generally settling within 24 to 48 hours. A short-lived increase in shedding in the first weeks is common and is not a sign of failure.

Less Common Risks

Infection, prolonged irritation and a reaction to the topical anesthetic or cleanser are all uncommon but possible. The concentrate itself is donor-screened, sterile-filtered and lot-tested for sterility, endotoxin and mycoplasma, but as with any product derived from donated human tissue or fluid there remains a very small risk of undetected infectious disease.

Honest Limits and Regulatory Status

This is not a stem cell treatment. The manufacturing process removes the cells, and what is applied is an acellular growth-factor filtrate. The product is not approved by the FDA as an injectable or for any specific indication; it is currently the subject of FDA-approved investigational new drug studies in androgenetic alopecia and knee osteoarthritis.

Is Xvie injected into the scalp?
No. It is applied to the surface of the scalp. We divide the hair with a sterile tool and apply small amounts of solution along the parting, then massage it across the treated area. The solution has the consistency of water, so it is applied slowly in droplets to stop it running off.
How many Xvie treatments will I need?
The protocol is a first treatment, then a second at twelve weeks. After that it is as needed, or roughly every twenty-four weeks for maintenance. We photograph your scalp at every interval, and an optional six-week photo visit lets us look at the early response.
Does Xvie hurt?
The microneedling pass is the part you feel. Topical lidocaine is available and is fully removed with an antimicrobial cleanser before the concentrate is applied. The application itself is not painful - it is a liquid massaged into the scalp.
When will I see a difference?
Reduced shedding is usually the first change, around eight to twelve weeks. Density follows the hair cycle, so judging the result before the second treatment has had time to work is too early. Response is weaker where follicles have already been lost, and results vary between patients.
